You Got This Because He’s Got You

Me? Really? Are you sure you have the right girl?

I felt like Moses as I processed an invitation to an exciting, yet intimidating, opportunity far outside my comfort zone. Granted, the request was significantly less dramatic than leading God’s people out of Egypt, but similar doubts and excuses fluttered around in my mind.

  • Who am I…? (Exodus 3:11)
  • Will they think I’m credible? (Exodus 4:1)
  • I’m not a speaker. (Exodus 4:10)
  • God, there are plenty others that seem a much better choice for this task. Why don’t you ask one of them? (Exodus 4:13)

God’s response to Moses didn’t include a self-esteem pep talk. He didn’t encourage Moses by explaining to him why his background and gifts made him the right guy for the job. He simply said, “I will be with you” (Exodus 3:12a).

Later in Exodus 4:12, He again promised, “I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”

Moses’ story didn’t stop with his insecurities and excuses, and neither would mine. Deep down I knew God was indeed calling me to accept that invitation and I believed the same God who empowered Moses would be with me and enable me to carry out my calling. So, I said yes.

That yes turned out to be one of the most faith building yeses of my life because over the following months, I experienced the Spirit of God equip me as I stepped forward in obedience.

He provided the wisdom, focus, strength, perseverance, joy, and courage to accomplish the work He set before me. He empowered me to stand before a group of women to fearlessly speak words He had given to me for them. He showed me the power of others praying for me which has stirred a greater desire in me to pray for God’s work in others. Our prayers really do make a difference y’all, more than we may ever know.

God’s faithfulness during this journey is allowing me to take greater steps of faith into the unknown because I know without a doubt that if God is guiding me to do something, I can have boldness and confidence in Him to do it, even if I feel inadequate.

It is an incredible and humbling privilege to allow God to use us…our minds, our voices, our hands…for His great purposes.

Friend, after prayerful consideration, if you sense God calling you to do something, I encourage you to say Yes! Lay down your excuses and insecurities. You got this…because He’s got you.

How true all of that is … and good for you! It’s difficult to take that first step.

Michelle, I don’t know where and when you spoke, but is very rewarding when you follow God’s leading. Do not hesitate to accept speaking engagements and start writing your book!!!!!
